A spectacular set of two deep bowls dating from the later 19th to early 20th century decorated inside with soaring cranes over a red sun with clouds of gold flake in Taka-maki-e. Outside is exquisite Togidashi Maki-e of clouds on black with a section of red turned wood below surrounding the foot. Each is roughly 14.5 cm (5-3/4 inches) diameter, 9 cm (3-1/2 inches) deep and in excellent condition, in the original age-darkened signed wooden box by Tachibanaya Tomoshichi.
